Host institutions

SMASH host institutions are some of the finest research institutions that Slovenia has to offer, and range from the youngest modern boutique University of Nova Gorica (UNG), the oldest University of Ljubljana (UL), to the largest science institute in the country, the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI), together with the governmental Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) and the Institute for Information Science (IZUM). Although each host institution has its own approach to academic research, all are characterised by being among Europe’s best, with excellent working conditions and wide-ranging administrative support.

Associate partners

SMASH has a strong international partnership with 25 associate partners, spanning five continents. Associate partners are chosen from some of the strongest EU institutions like University of Amsterdam, CICERO and beyond EU, eg. UC Berkley, University of Washington, CERN, Queen Mary University of London, and Weizmann Institute. They will play an added value in the SMASH program, by providing a wide range of complementary competencies as well as offering long-term visiting opportunities via secondments.
