The University of Washington (UW) is one of the world’s preeminent public universities. Ranked No. 7 in the world on the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Global Universities rankings, the UW educates more than 54,000 students annually. It is also one of three US universities that is part of Schmidt Futures, a philanthropic initiative founded by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt investing $40 million over the next 5 years to establish a Virtual Institute for Scientific Software.

The DIRAC Institute, hosted by the University of Washington, is a world leading, interdisciplinary research center that addresses fundamental questions about the origins and evolution of our universe. Their research brings together scientists across many disciplines on a mission to understand the nature of Dark Matter and Dark Energy, the emergence of structure within the universe, the formation of galaxies, the birth and evolution of black holes, the transformations of stars, and the origins of the planets.
