Training Session on Ethics
This event is part of the SMASH training activities, and it will offer the opportunity to further understand the impact that the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques have in different fields. The event will be divided in two parts:
Part 1: When Humanities Meet Machine Learning: New Frontiers of Inquiry at INZ
Dr. Andrej Pančur (Director, INZ) and Filip Dobranić (Digital Humanities Research Programme) will discuss and present how the Institute for Contemporary History is engaging with AI and machine learning. They will explore how these technologies are applied across disciplines where data take diverse forms, and what this means for contemporary Humanities research. Their session will also reflect on the benefits and challenges of genuine inter- and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Part 2: This will be followed by a Q&A session with Prof Jana Javornik, focusing on topics relevant to SMASH Fellows, including how to plan and build an international academic career in today’s changing and often precarious environment. The discussion titled “Navigating a Changing Academia: Creating Your Global Future,” will be guided by your questions, challenges, and experiences.
Fellows are welcome to email Jana Javornik in advance with any issues they would like to see addressed, especially if they prefer not to raise them in person.
This session also offers an opportunity for colleagues to raise any Ethics or EDI-related issues with Jana Javornik, given her dual role within SMASH.
