AI@Academia Roundtable
SMASH postdoctoral network is organizing AI@Academia Roundtable. It will be a discussion dedicated to AI applications for research work: teaching, searching literature, coding, writing papers, and so on; basically, all the things that researchers do, regardless of their field of science. The idea is to have a discussion between people who already have experience with the tools and opinions on how to use them. From the results of this Roundtable, we will prepare an informal report for further references, and perhaps an Arxiv publication, and use them as a guide to organize more training-oriented events in the future.
Format: Intro session/getting to know each other (40 min) + 4 thematic sessions (~1 hour each, each chaired by a volunteer) + 1 hour for lunch + 20 min buffer for technical issues and heated discussions = 6 hours in total
Participants: 10-20 people, mostly SMASH postdocs, but open to the folks from UNG, UL FRI and UL FMF , JSI, and Trieste. The event is for those who already use AI often, comfortable with the terminology, and willing to share their experience and discuss how academic work and teaching should change to incorporate and/or mitigate AI. We plan to later organize training events for those who aren’t fluent with the topic yet.
Registration needed:
In order to participate, please, fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfNAFym2whjq2aqPPVvW8m_Wd_quJOxqltwt706Zx4QG5Lz5g/viewform?usp=dialog.
We'll be happy to have people who use AI and have opinions on how it should be done from all career stages, from undergrad students to faculty members, regardless of your affiliation with SMASH.
Since it is a discussion event, we will limit the number of participants to 20 people, but we do have some seats free right now. Registration deadline is May 19, but we may close it earlier if we reach the limiting capacity.
