Blaž Škrlj

Dr. Blaž Škrlj is a computer scientist working at the intersection of symbolic and sub-symbolic machine learning, with interests in resource-efficient AI, representation learning, and biomedical applications. His research spans automated machine learning (AutoML), explainable neuro-symbolic models, and large-scale recommendation systems. He has experience in distributed computing, scalable multimodal learning, and open-source software development.


He co-leads research at IJS on machine learning for 3D biofilm classification, developing efficient multimodal AutoML pipelines for biological image analysis. His prior experience includes applied ML R&D roles in industry (Teads, Outbrain) and academic research on knowledge graph representation learning and cross-lingual natural language processing.
