University of Valencia, Instituto de Física Corpuscular
SMASH Associate partner
The Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC) is a joint centre between the Spanish Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC) and the University of Valencia devoted to research in Nuclear, Particle and Astroparticle Physics and its applications to Medical Physics and to other fields of Science and Technology. In 2024, IFIC has been awarded with the ‘Severo Ochoa’ accreditation as center of excellence in recognition of its outstanding performance and scientific contributions at national and international level, its impact at industrial and social level, and the ability to attract scientific talent.
IFIC’s researchers develop their work in a wide variety of topics in Theoretical Physics, such as the phenomenological aspects of the Standard Model, in theories beyond this model, in Nuclear and Many-Body Physics, in Astroparticle Physics and Cosmology. IFIC’s researchers participate in several experiments in Particle, Astroparticle and Nuclear Physics as well as in the applications of this disciplines to other fields of Science and Technology. A good fraction of the scientists participate in the ATLAS and LHCb experiments at CERN and in the preparation for the future accelerator ILC. The group of e-Science participates in the GRID for the LHC and in other activities of distributed computing. In Astroparticle Physic the work is focused on the neutrino telescope KM3NeT and in Neutrino Physics, in the NEXT and T2K experiments. In Nuclear Physics, the institute participates in the AGATA experiment, in the future accelerator FAIR and in the nTOF experiment at CERN. Finally, the group of Medical Physics carries out several activities related mainly to medical imaging.
